2 Simple Things I’ve Learned (in 40 years)

June 1st was a milestone for me – my big 4-0! I spent the weekend with my family, reflecting on the last 40 years.

There is nothing like a big birthday to get you thinking about what you want to achieve in life – and I have a long way to go. But what I love most about Athena is the motivation I get from women I meet every day, and from being part of a community that is aligned with my purpose.

2 Simple Things I’ve Learned:

1) Lean on your support network to help you achieve more and share the load
2) Turn up with the intention to support the dreams and aspirations of others

I am here to inspire and be inspired, are you? 🙂

To our success,

Gina Romero

Free For A Power Lunch Tomorrow?

At Athena we have 2 Executive Club meetings every month and these sessions are definitely what I would call ‘power lunches’!

In the space of a 2 hour session with lunch included, 20 business women follow a structured agenda to get the most out of the time and reach out to a diverse set of contacts through those in the room.

With each attendee representing a different profession, you are guaranteed to meet people from a wide range of industries and open up opportunities for excellent connections.

Here’s the agenda

12:00-12:20 Registration & Open Networking
12.20-12:25 Lunch is Served & Take Seats
12:25-12:30 Open & Introductions (official welcome)
12:30-12:35 Welcome & Athena’s History (background)
12.35-12:40 Business Card Shuffle (pass your business cards)
12.40-12:50 Networking Strategy Training (networking tips)
12.50-13:20 Monthly Minutes (how can we help you)
13.20-13:35 Business Development Training (expert advice)
13.30-13:45 Let’s Talk Business! (how you can help others)
13:45-13:50 Community & Networking News (what’s upcoming)
13:50-13:55 Any Other Business (announcements)
13:55-14:00 Close (optional additional networking until 14:30)

We run the meeting with military precision, so you can be sure to leave for your next appointment on time.

Do you want to join us? We have 1 spot left for tomorrow and several for next Tuesday.

Let us know asap as these meetings are fully booked every month!

We look forward to welcoming you.

PS> If you are new to this type of format, don’t worry – the meeting is chaired by one of our group managers who will walk you through each segment of the meeting. Visitors can sit, relax and enjoy 🙂

b655c364-bb85-4c04-9902-33deb7ba0a1dPeople often see networking as an opportunity to promote themselves. And it definitely is, to a certain extent. But if you find it hard to promote yourself you are not alone…

At every Athena Executive Club we have a section called Monthly Minutes where each of the 20 ladies at the meeting stand up for one minute and share about their business. This includes who they are, what they do and how their fellow members can help them.

Later in the meeting, we have ‘Let’s Talk Business’ where we give testimonials and thank other people in the group for providing a service that has helped us. It always makes me smile – no matter how shy or new to Monthly Minutes some of our visitors are – during Let’s Talk Business they simply come alive. It’s just much easier to show appreciation for someone else than it is to talk about ourselves 🙂

At Athena, championing each others success is what we do best.

As this month is our Anniversary we are playing Testimonial Tag on Facebook.

All you have to do is:

1) Go to our Facebook page (like the page).
2) Share the Happy Anniversary image with testimonial for someone in the community who has helped you or inspired you.
3) Don’t forget to tag them and include the hashtag #happybirthdayAthenaSG

You post privacy needs to be public or we might not see it!

Everyones hash-tagged posts will be entered into a lucky draw and I’m offering a 2 hour, in-person, networking strategy masterclass worth $250 to 5 winners!

Tomorrow evening we are celebrating our anniversary with drinks at The Halia. All 30 tickets have sold out but I’m waiting for the venue to confirm a bigger space. If you would like to join us please add your name to the waiting-list and we will release seats as soon as we hear! Everyone is welcome (subject to space), gentlemen too.

We look forward to welcoming you.

PS> Are you an introvert who wants to network but can’t pluck up the courage? Drop me a message and I’ll personally welcome you at our next event and make sure you are taken care of by one of our members!

The Athena Network Singapore Turns 3!

1ca66794-0467-487d-bbb8-7c273f235e2eI can hardly believe it but The Athena Network Singapore turns 3 this February! It really is a bit like watching a child grow up and I admit to feeling quite like the proud mother. Our community has blossomed, from one monthly networking event, to a network that has welcomed 2000 women to over 150 events in the last 3 years. We’ve partnered with Google, Microsoft, StarHub, Twitter and SingTel to create programmes for women in Singapore. We’ve been featured in Harper’s BAZAAR, Her World and on 938Live. We’ve built an online platform to that our members can find each other outside of events and share their expertise with each other.

We have championed each other’s success.

Yes, we have certainly had a busy 3 years and we are only just getting started!

Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing support and contribution of our members – and what better time so say a heartfelt THANK YOU than now? 🙂

Personally, the best part has been working alongside the many amazing women in our network, for support, collaboration and most importantly FUN!

What have you been up to for the past 3 years? Have you moved forward and created something that you are proud to call your own? Or have you struggled on your own?

Whatever your answer, don’t take another step alone. Join us and share the journey – who knows where the next 3 years will take us!

We are celebrating this happy milestone at The Halia, Raffles Hotel next week, and everyone is welcome – just register to attend!

We look forward to welcoming you.

PS> If you’ve been on the Athena mailing list for 1, 2 or 3 years and haven’t attended an event, I would love to know why. I promise to reply if you reach out.

To our success,

Gina and The Athena Network Singapore Team

Dr. Robyn Wilson – an introvert’s networking success story

Many people within the Athena Community know of Dr. Robyn Wilson, our Athena board adviser and one of Singapore’s top facilitators and executive coaches. Her ever-presence in the entrepreneur scene has almost reached fandom status!

dr robyn

Since joining Athena, we’ve seen Dr Robyn undergo a huge transformation – emerging onto the Startup entrepreneurial scene and new leadership heights. From Executive Connections facilitator to Founder of Startup Conversations and panelist facilitator at the Powering Women in Business conference – all on top of running her business, Praxis Management Consulting.

For those who have met Dr Robyn will have heard her confess to being an  introvert averse to networking – so it may come as a surprise to many to see Dr. Robyn take on the public stage, develop a powerful network and nurturing a women’s business community.

It is obvious though, that despite the confessed introversion, Dr Robyn’s gift is in people and helping to provide clarity. As a board adviser she has helped the Athena HQ team find its momentum as a fast-growing startup. She believes that each person is unique with their own dreams, responsibilities, giftings and challenges and loves seeing individuals discover and realize the greater potential. Her ethos is not to “bid you enter the house of her wisdom, but rather lead you to the threshold of your own mind.”

Amid all this, Dr. Robyn works with leaders in Asia to enable them to manage and grow their organisations – whether they be CEOs, senior leaders, entrepreneurs or people with dreams! – as a facilitator, consultant, executive coach, educator and researcher.

We’ve seen Dr Robyn facilitate many events but we have yet to hear her story. Now’s our chance to hear her “big why” at this Friday’s (29th November) Cappuccino Connections.

Find out more about Dr. Robyn– what has led her to where she is today, why she’s doing what she’s doing, and what’s next?!

Join us on Friday 29th November’s at Cappuccino Connections and meet, connect and network with 40 ladies in the local business scene in a friendly and informal environmental.
